Martensitic stainless steels are magnetic primarily because of ferrite in the chemical composition, which is a compound containing iron. 440C is highly magnetic.
440C can be used to make rolling contact stainless bearings, e.g. ball bearings and roller bearings. It is also used to make knife blades, dental and surgical instruments.
416 stainless is a high-Sulphur version of 410. The added Sulphur gives it high machinability but lower corrosion resistance than 410.
AISI: 416 is equivalent to BS: 416S21 and EN: 1.4005
In terms of strength, stainless steel generally performs over mild steel. This is mainly because 304 is a high-chromium steel.
304 is a high-Chromium, high-Nickel austenitic stainless. 304L is a low carbon version of 304. With lower carbon, 304L reduces chromium carbide precipitation.
The carriage charge, if we are delivering for you, is usually itemised separately on your quotation. If for some reason it isn’t (for example if we are despatching several orders together and we need to wait for a final consignment weight to be calculated), then we can give you a guideline estimate to be confirmed at the time of despatch. The carriage amount will depend on total weight, your postcode and the service you require – standard or overnight. For an estimate please phone 01226 766766 and ask for Paula, or email Paula@birdstst.com
If your goods are going within the UK, we can happily arrange transport for you with our retained carrier C and D Transport. Alternatively, you can arrange for your carrier to collect. Please be aware however that the postcode to use if your carrier is using SatNav is S36 6HH.
If you think your delivery is late, please contact us and we will check your order status for you. Please either phone 01226 766766 or email despatch@birdstst.com
Your order acknowledgement will have on it an expected despatch date. The actual date that your steel arrives with you however will depend on the speed of the delivery service that you have selected.
We can set you up a proforma account straightaway, you just need to fill in a Customer Account Set Up form. If however you would like a credit account, it may take a little longer, as we will need to check both 2 credit references and to do an external credit check on your company. Once this is done, we will happily move your account from a proforma to a credit account and will let you know your credit limit and terms.
