Marine Stainless Steel Grades:

F51316L431 – ASTM A564 Type 630 H1150D – 1.4418

There is no industry-recognised definition of marine-grade stainless steel but certain grades are typically specified for their improved resistance to corrosive marine environments.

Prior to despatch all our marine shafts are inspected, Netlon sleeved, wrapped and/or boxed to ensure their safe arrival.

All our shafts are supplied with 3.1 certificates and where required, Bird Stainless can supply material complete with 3rd party inspections by outside agencies such as Lloyds; DNV.GL (Norway); American Bureau of Shipping (ABS); Bureau Veritas (BV); Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) and many more.

Our propeller shafts have been assembled in various types of marine vessels; from workboats right through to commercial craft and luxurious superyachts.

Typical tolerances include:

  • 1mm per 1,000mm on the straightness; bespoke tolerance can be supplied on request
  • 10 CLA to 90CLA on the surface finish (dependent on diameter)
  • Dimensional tolerance from h6 to h9 (dependent on diameter)
