Centreless Bar Precision Grinding
With a rich history in the steel industry, Bird Stainless has a wealth of knowledge in specialist in-house processing services, including over 35 years of precision grinding experience. Our dedicated team of skilled grinding operatives forms the backbone of our commitment to precision and excellence.
Precision Grinding Experience
We offer in-house precision grinding from 2mm diameter up to 250mm diameter, in lengths from 2,500mm to over 12,000mm. We can supply to a tolerance of 0.0005″ and a surface finish of Ra 35 or better, depending on diameter and grade.
Our Precision Grinding facility consists of 5 Lidkoping Centreless Grinding machines with automatic bar feeders, 2 straightening presses and 1 polishing line, giving us the ability to handle volume orders to tight tolerances and lead times.
To ensure consistent surface finish we have invested in new and improved surface roughness measurement equipment, which measures the surface finish whilst the bar is in production. A typical tolerance on the surface finish is 32 CLA maximum. The results are then saved electronically to allow reporting within the certification package to the customer.

Over the last few years, we have implemented a continual improvement program with procedures that are assessed and have met ISO 9001:2015 quality requirements, ensuring your bars are processed on time to your requirements. These are reviewed annually to ensure we continue to offer our customers excellent quality.

Our state-of-the-art precision grinding facility features five Lidkoping Centerless Grinding machines, each outfitted with automatic bar feeders. This advanced equipment lets us handle large orders while maintaining impeccable precision and consistency.
